The F15 Halifax River Sea Plane Base in Holly Hill, FL was first established in 1937 by local sports aviator Robert W. Orrell, and the base included a designated water landing strip and seaplane hangar. Over the years, the base fell into disuse and the sea planes disappeared from the Halifax River, until local visionary Chris Bailey decided to recertify the base and bring back the sea planes. With a bit of assistance from federal and state agencies, as well as private interests, the Halifax River Seaplane Base was officially re-certificated on November 15, 2017 and the inaugural flights into and out of the base were made on September 9, 2018.
Icon Aircraft brought their incredible A5 light sport sea plane to make a few demo flights and to show off the airplane to the public. Lea Creative Group’s cinematographer, James Lea, was there to commemorate the event with this short video.
